Judd House
Set within the Moorfields Conservation Area, in a neighbourhood of global technology giants and entrepreneurial start-ups, this former hostel presented the opportunity to create new elements within an old structure and restore the assets of a robust Victorian Warehouse building.
Inspiration for new monolithic core elements and ethereal circulation structures was drawn from Richard Serra, Seon Ghi Bahk and Donald Judd, with the existing fabric acting as the gallery. It is not just the chic appeal of exposed brickwork and high ceilings; it is the building’s whole composition that naturally accommodates multiple work settings.
This type of industrial building offers a specific character that you cannot find in offices of new construction and so, in many ways, the less we did the more successful we knew it would be. Achieving BREEAM Excellent was the result of a committed team’s passion for sustainable adaptive re-use.
